One of the big things that surprised us most when running the workshops was the importance of team work and when it was working well it produced a momentum for the whole project that would solve and overcome story or personality issues for the sake of the bigger picture. It was not always the case in the early days but we learnt how to make sure every ones voice was heard and it was understood that need everyone could be the lead actor/hero or work the camera etc but understanding the importance of all the roles on the project.
It is important to learn in different ways, the students learn to work together on the projects, unlike the traditional way of writing stories in education by themselves we see the importance of being able to work together, similar to the American way of table/group writing where they work together on the story. The students soon realise that not everyone can be the lead character or be the cameraman its about team work.
UPDATE. We are in the process of developing a secure channel where children can see their films and films of other groups.
